artist statement.

Matthew Domenic Salvo’s recent works explore the relationship between nature and
humanity. His body of work presents an ongoing theme between the severity of
nature’s threats and natures beauties. Whilst bringing forward the importance of
nature and the need to preserve it as a key feature in his work, Salvo also finds it of
great importance to illuminate aspects of modern industrialisation and the impacts it
imposes on nature such so that it has become an integral viewpoint in his work in a
sometime shrouding way. Whist keeping in mind the duality of industrial vs nature,
salvo draws great inspiration in pointing out the effect’s pollution, over consumption
and non-sustainable materials have on the environment. His Gestural mark making
and multi-layered surfaces attempt to outline this as a visual dialog for these pressing
issues as he blends in and out of abstraction and figurative imagery in an interpretive
and expressive way.
