Topo
artist statement.
Born and raised in Madrid, I have always lived surrounded by graffiti writers and urban artists. In love with the pleasure of not knowing and the reflection on the why of things, I found in the artistic expressions of the streets the best way to share my enthusiasm for life and its eternal questions.
I understood art as the purest and most universal means of dialogue between people and their environment, which led me to study graphic arts and create Topo, my alter ego, with the intention of breaking the monotony of the streets by sowing small seeds of joy in every corner of the world.
Each of these seeds is an urban artwork that invites people to pause, smile, and simply BE. Using multiple techniques like stickers, sculptures, graffiti, paste-ups, tiles... any medium is good. In fact, after several years of dedicating myself exclusively to the streets, now my work also expands to galleries, studio pieces, tattoos, textile works, etc. Any format is valid because they all aim for the same thing: the use of free thinking and individual will to see reality in a favorable, positive way, with inherent meaning, and as part of a whole thing.
In this way, we will break free from a gray, colorless society that sells us freedom but conditions us more than ever.
